　　I’d like to begin my topic with my dream. A few days ago, I had a dream, I became a doctor. I had my clinic on the Mars. One day after I finished curing a patient, another one came in. Oh, my God! It was our mother— the earth. She was crying.” Doctor, please save me! Please save me!”

　　Her terrible looking frightened me. She looked weak and painful. She said,” Doctor, I am dying. Look! My Skin — the forests are being cut down by people, my blood —the rivers and oceans are being polluted by the waste from the factories, my children —the people and animals are killing each other. My whole body is covered with wounds. Please save me!”

　　Suddenly, I woke up. Bless me! It was just a dream. But would it be a dream forever? Man did not have to think about the protection of the environment before, as there were few people on the earth, and natural resources seemed to be unlimited. Today things are different. The world has become too crowed. Our natural resources are being used up and the environment is

　　being polluted by human beings.

　　Now , please look at the sky, black smog is full of the sky. We can’t see the blue sky. You can see lots of cars in the streets. They give off terrible gas every second. And you can see factory chimneys giving off black smoke. So we have to breathe the polluted air. Waste water is given off from factories. It directly flows into rivers and oceans. So we have to drink the polluted water and eat the polluted food everyday. And you can hear noise from time to time. More and more people die from the illness, which caused by pollution. And now nature is punishing us. If we don’t do anything to save the earth, maybe the dream will become true in the near future. At that time, we can do nothing but cry for what we have done to nature.

　　No nature, no life! Just imagine, if there were no trees no flowers and no animals in the world, only pollutants were left, how terrible it would be! We have only one earth. Don’t let our mother — the earth cry! If we want to live a better life and have a brighter future, we must do our best to protect her now, not only for the well-being of ourselves, but also for that of our future generations.

　　What can we do to save our mother — the earth? As one of her children, as a student, we should make good use of every piece

　　of paper, we should not litter rubbish here and there; we should use eco-friendly bags when we go shopping. We should collect used batteries, we should protect flowers and trees and plant trees every year .we should go to school on foot or by bike or by bus instead of driving cars. We shouldn’t use throwaway chopsticks and plastic bags. We should save natural resources at any time. Not only do we protect the earth, but also we tell people around us to do so. There are many, many things we can do to protect our mother —the earth. In a word, we do from ourselves, from now, from here.

　　As a university student, establishing a dream is one of the most important things we have to do .But everyone must see the reality clearly at first. Your family condition, your personal ability, your social intercourse (交往、交流), your subject and the you want to do, these things show you the reality and lead you to establish a dream.

It’s necessary for us to prepare ourselves well for the future to come. So, what should we do? Here ,I’ll point out some tips to help equip ourselves

　　First of all, recognize the direction of your future. In other word, think of what you’d like to be some day. A teacher ? A doctor ? A writer? Don’t afraid of thinking big and great .Since you are young , you can dream of doing anything and becoming anyone in the future

　　What’s more , never ignore the power of knowledge. Read more books and travel around. For one thing, it can increase your knowledge, for another, it’ll broaden your horizon.

　　“no young man believes he will ever fade”, it was a saying of my old friend , and a fine one . we look round in this world, full of life, and motion, and ceaseless progress, as in setting out on delightful journey, we strain our eager gaze forward . there is a feeling of eternity in youth, just right which makes us amend for everything.

　　about my dream, it can be traced back to my childhood, i just want play more ,when i grew older, i was convinced that i would be a physicist or a psychologist. after ,it’s a pity for me that i could not do anything to approach it .although they have ceased to exist and dispeared ,they lead my growth along the way. dreams nourish our spirit ,they represent possibility even then we are dragged down by reality . dream is the beacon. , without dream, there is no secure direction; without direction, there is no life. so i believe the important thing in life is to have a great dream, and the determination to attain it. without own dream, wecould never have grown up a real man .and in fact, not only for personal, but also for world.

　　at first, it was my natural teacher of senior high school who brought me great interest in architectures and cities when i was far away from urban planning . and then i met many cities in and out of books by myself .different places and different cultures just made me more interested in cities.

　　i see that there’re many problems caused by urban development and the lack of deliberate planning, such as environmental pollution, slums, urban sprawling etc.cities establish the kind of housing, industrial, and retail facilities which can be built in it. others evaluate the impact of proposed residential or mercial development and suggest ways for munities to respond. and i want to protect open space andagricultural land in the face of increasing demands for new homes and business.

　　the urban planning system should be plete and can run itself and most cities have developed and there’re much experience and many cases to learn. i want to mit.

　　finally,planners usually can find a decent job and get good paid and i want to have a house, facing the sea with flowers in the future. i will take every effort to acplish my dream .i won’t let it bee a fantasy , it is just my dream .maybe some years later , it will bee true .

　　As for myself, I have dreamed to be an excellent police in high school due to there are so many thefts in my hometown while they are seldom caught. Sooner I have realized how ridiculous am I and now I turn to realistic: I just want to be a translator.

　　How do I pursue my dream?

　　First of all, I try my best to correct the pronunciation and read the textbook or other English magazines such as: English weekly, English salon and the like. I try to do this day by day. Now I have improved my reading ability a lot and it also enlarged my vocabulary.

　　I enter tile university after years of hardstudy and preparation. But life in the university is not as satisfactory as what I had expected.

　　I become lazy and don't want to study.I become silcent. I become puzzled. I don't know what I can do in the future.

　　Then I become unhappy. Four years in the university is only a short period when compared my whole lifetime.

　　Now it has passed a half. In this year, many people ,such as my parents,my friends, ask me what I want to do and tell me to map out a plan for my life.

　　I don't want to follow their suggestion, and I want to go my style.

　　So I think carefully. I have been a young volunteer for five years.It's very happy and significant. Then I have a dream.I want to join the University Student Volunteers Go West Programe.

Now I can't reach its demand and it's very diffcult,but I will work hard in the next two years. 　　First, I will talk something about my university. My university, -Henan Polytechnic University has a long and honor history. Our campus is so beautiful and when I stepped on the campus of Our university, seeing the sunshine sprinkling over the teaching buildings, my stage I know, is here!

　　It was the first time that I went into HPU, I felt he is so young ,so living and kicking, just as we are! It was the first time that I was attracted in class by my teachers, and my English teacher in particularly, who, you know, is just like our old friend, funny, soft , considerate and trying to make us more comfortable! It was the first time that I made friends here, we have a little in common, thus we all head for the same destination, we all make progress every day! it was the first time that I participated in activities here, I was terribly excited, feeling being young is so wonderful!!

　　Actually， my life in university is substantial. I tried to study harder and took more active part in activities at school to eich my life and myself. There is an old saying "where there is a will, there is a way." I think my dream can come true. Now in the university I mature, and in the university I prepare for the real world. 　　When I was in the primary school, I had a dream, I want to invent a device which could bring you from one place to another in no time at all. When I was in the secondary school, my dream was to study in my ideal university. And when eventually I got into the university, my dream was to graduate. How pathetic! When we grow up, we dream less and become more realistic. Why? Why do we have to change our dreams, so, so in order to let it be “fulfilled”? Why do we have to surrender to the so-called “reality”? What is the reality actually?

　　Ladies and gentlemen, the reality is not real. It is barrier keeping us from all possible fantasies. Flying, for example, had been a dream to mankind for thousands of years. A hundred years ago, “man could not fly” was still regarded as the “reality”. Now if that was really the reality, what did the Wright brothers do? How did some of you get to Macao? Only when we believe that the reality is not real can we soar with our dreams. People say that our future is a battle between the reality and our dreams. And if, unfortunately, Mr.Reality wins this war, then I see no future of mankind at all. AIDS will never be curable as this is the reality; People living in the undeveloped countries will suffer from starvation forever as this is the reality; Disputes among different countries would never be settled as this misunderstandings and intolerance is the reality.

　　Ladies and gentlemen, how many of you have a dream of being able to make a lot of money? Please raise your hands. Oh, quite a number of you! Actually, ladies and gentlemen, this is not a dream, but a task. Every one of us has to make a living, right? Anyway I hope your task will be accomplished. 　　Now that I am university student, my goal is to graduate with excellences. But at the same time, I have dream deeply rooted in our future. One day, people living in the areas now sweltering with the horror of wars will be able to sit with their families and enjoy their every moment. One day, from the rich countries are willing to share what they have with those from the poor countries and those from the countries will eventually be able to make their own happy living themselves. One day , different cultures in this age of globalization will coexist with tolerance and the unfriendly confrontations among them will be eliminated. One day, the globe will share the dream with me and we will all contribute to making our dream come true. One day, our dream will defeat the reality!
